Whilst learning without depower will make you a more acomplished kitesurfer as you will learn edge control better it will make you take much longer to learn as you will get hauled off your edge or on your face. The bego doesnt have depower but you can apply the brake as it crosses the window to hold it back a put and it pulls a little harder. The bar, i fly on handles and this kite needs a lot of brake input to get the best from it, to achieve this on a bar you would need something like the c-quad bar which would make for a technical fly, not good for learning. I see the bego as a buggy kite as it is high aspect and doesnt produce huge lift (ignore claims of big jumps, yes its possible but there are better tools for the job) it does not produce huge amounts of power at the edge of the window and it will arive there quickly so will have to be worked a lot to get any power which leads nicely to. dont get me wrong i like the kite and use it a lot but just beware of hype. these comments are made as usual after i have taken a bit of time to get used to the kite. It does not pull better than similar kites which are bigger, the only time this is not true is when there is so little wind that the other kites wont fly and therres no fun to be had then anyway. It is very effiecent and goes up wind very well Yes it flies well in light wind due to its superlight consruction. there was a lot of hype about low wind performance which is good and you can believe who / what you want but all the bego does is punch its own weight. i have the mac bego and whilst it is good and does what it sez on the tin i wouldn't surf with it. I think you may be getting bad advice from somewhere if you want to start kitesurfing with the neptune. I am merely hungover rather than still drunk so this may make sense.
